The Russian, leader of the overall World Cup standings, will not compete this weekend in Sweden to better prepare for the World Cup in Oberstdorf. A tempting opportunity for "Chicco" to permanently stretch over his rivals and put the sprint cup on ice.

Today a very important news arrived for our "Chicco" Pellegrino: Alexander Bolshunov will not be competing in the Ulricehamn stage, leaving numerous points for the sprint classification.
Russia will appear in Sweden with only Gleb Retivykh and Sergey Ustiugov, but not with its spearhead (Bolshunov), who will train in view of the appointment of the year: the World Cup in Oberstdorf, scheduled from 23 February to March 7.
The news was communicated by the coach of the Russian champion, Yuri Borodavko, to the TASS agency.
Therefore, Federico Pellegrino will be able to increase his advantage over Bolshunov (at the moment 70 points away from our standard bearer) and also obtain a great result in Saturday's sprint, since in skating he is certainly among the most competitive cross-country skiers. In the event of an important result, "Chicco" would really come one step away from winning his second sprint cup, after the one he won in the 2015/2016 season.
Recall that this season Pellegrino triumphed in three sprints: Davos, Dresden and the opening of the Tour de Ski in Val Mustair. These three successes also earned him the top spot, where he leads with 354 points ahead of Russian Gleb Retivykh (289) and Alexander Bolshunov (284).
