Dangerous driving, use of the telephone while driving and possession of drugs: these are the crimes that led the Oslo court to decree the heavy sentence for the 34-year-old, winner of two cross-country skiing World Cups.

Peter Northug was sentenced to seven months' imprisonment by the Oslo court and, in addition, his driving license for life was also withdrawn.
In August, the former Norwegian champion was stopped by the police while traveling at a speed of 90 km / h above the permitted limit; following what happened, a search had been carried out in his home, which had worsened the position of the former cross-country skier even more, since a modest amount of cocaine had been found.
Judge Ole Kristen Overberg held that the crimes committed by the accused could have caused harm to him and other people, and were also filmed by the offender himself, a crime that Northug had already committed in the past.
Northug will not be able to replace imprisonment by wearing an anklet (valid only for sentences of less than six months) but in five years he could get his driving license back, which in Norway is usually returned after such a period.
We recall that Peter Northug left the competitive world of cross-country skiing in December 2018, after having won two general world cups, fifty races in the World Cup, four Olympic medals and sixteen world medals.
