Charlotte Kalla retires from cross-country skiing

The 34-year-old from Gallivare will end her memorable career tomorrow at the Swedish championships at her home in the town of Pitea.

Charlotte Kalla has decided to hang up her skis and say goodbye to the sport that has given her so much satisfaction. Spearhead of the Swedish fund for most of his career, in which he managed to put Marit Bjorgen on the ropes especially in free technique, he accomplished the feat of keeping Sweden in the waterline especially between 2007 and 2018 before to set towards a natural decline. Among his prestigious numbers are the 2008 Tour de Ski, the Olympic gold in the 10 km individual Vancouver and the Olympic Skiathlon in Pyeonchang 2018, the gold in the 10 km at the home world championships in Falun in 2015, to which three more team gold medals between the World Cup and the Olympics must be added. These precious metal prizes are joined by six other Olympic silver medals, three of which are individual and three are team medals and another ten world medals, of which six consecutive in as many reviews in the relay sector. Overall he has collected 22 medals between the World Cup and the Olympics. His class and his tenacity put on the pitch has been a promoter for the new generation of athletes who have approached this sport, including the now ex Stina Nilsson, the two current points of the national team Ebba Andersson and Frida Karlsson. A more than just passing of the baton not only for the moment, but also for the potential and results achieved in recent years by both Karlsson and Andersson. The tow of Charlotte Kalla during this ten-year golden period of the girl from Gallivare is also confirmed by the twelve successes obtained, three of which in Sweden in Gallivare, Falun and Ostersund in her favorite distance, the 10 km free technique. 59 individual podiums and another 18 team podiums are added. Certainly she is the best Swede on the circuit in recent years even if she missed the world cup in her brilliant palmares, in which context she collected a couple of silent fourth places in the overall standings in the years 2008 and 2012.
