Fis Congress in Zurich, they are announcing great news for the 2018-19 season

During the last week's meeting, minor changes were made to the 2017-18 season calendar and the Tour de Ski regulations. As for the year 2018-19, however, there have appeared many indiscretions that if confirmed would lead to the revolution of the discipline.

Almost totally confirmed this World Cup season that will start in Ruka (Fin) at the end of November and will have the Tour de Ski as top points during the end of December and early January and the XXth Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang that will open with the skiathlon female on February 10th. Changes were only approved for the program of the Dobbiaco stage (Bz) that will be held on the weekend before Christmas (16-17 December). For the occasion, the techniques of the races were reversed, on Saturday 16th will be a 10 and 15 km skating, while on Sunday 17 will be on stage two pursuit in classics. Minimal changes also in the upcoming Tour de Ski rules regarding the bonuses that are obtained in sprint races. During the meeting, some proposals were also discussed regarding some changes in format for the 2018-19 season. The chairman of the FIS Cross-Board Committee, Vegard Ulvang, confirmed the intention to make some changes to the discipline to increase the interest of the media and the public. These novelties will eventually be approved at the forthcoming FIS Congress that will be held in May in Greece. Specifically, rumors that came out in recent days speak of a possible cancellation of the skiathlon, which would be replaced by Pursuit in the world championships, and classical sprints, in this case it would be an increase in skating sprints in the calendar. I also look at the idea of â€‹â€‹introducing a mixed sprint team. As for the staffs, absent in the WC this season, Ulvang confirmed they will be back in 2018 even though male fractions may be shortened from 10 to 7.5 km. In addition to the editing of existing forms, there are rumors of a possible cross country cross country crossing, already experienced in 2016 at the Lillehammer Winter Olympic Games (Nor). It would be a test on tight skis with the insertion of jumps and various obstacles, such as slalom doors. If this proposal were approved, we would face a historic cross-country revolution that would distort the essence of discipline.
