Dobbiaco-Cortina 2021, the "Ferrovia delle Dolomiti" turns white for the event of 23-24 January

Everything is now ready for the appointment with the great cross-country classic valid for the Visma Ski Classics circuit.

The 44th edition of the Dobbiaco-Cortina Granfondo is less and less missing, which will start on the weekend of 23 and 24 January 2021. An event that, despite all the difficulties brought by Covid, will also be present this year in the cross-country calendar of the "long distance ”and will once again be part of the Visma Ski Classics circuit. Snow, despite the past years, has not been a problem and the slopes are ready to welcome athletes from all over the world. There have been many centimeters down in recent weeks and it took a lot of work to polish the kilometers of track that lead from Dobbiaco to Cortina. The difficulties, however, this year have arisen due to the pandemic that has raged and canceled many sporting events. The commitment of the organizing committee to keep this much-loved granfondo on the calendar was truly incredible, and it was the president Herbert Santer and the deputy Igor Gombac in first person who took the field to fulfill all the provisions in order to respect the rules in force. "Behind closed doors" races, registrations limited to 600 athletes for the classic test and 450 for the skating one, masks to be worn also in the start and finish areas and body temperature control which, on the day of the race, must not exceed 37.5 ° C. The athletes of the Pro Team in particular will have to follow a strict protocol and perform the tampon like all people closely involved with the athletes. In short, the priority of the organizing committee is the safety and health of the participants and of all the people who work for the event. An event that therefore promises to be different, but certainly no less spectacular. Same story, same place and same ... paths. The 42 km in classic technique and 32 km in skating will start from the military airport of Dobbiaco which will lead to the heart of Cortina, along the fascinating and panoramic route of the "Ferrovia delle Dolomiti" which between 1921 and 1964 connected the provinces of Bolzano and Belluno. The route will develop, for both techniques, in a single direction and will touch postcard landscapes along the snow-covered scenarios from Alta Pusteria to Cadore. After the start, San Candido will be the first village crossed, then we will pass in the Nordic Arena of Dobbiaco, theater of the Tour de Ski a few days ago, but it will only be the beginning of an exciting day. The route will continue towards Lake Dobbiaco and Lake Landro, interspersed with the suggestive panoramic view “Vista Tre Cime” which will give athletes the right reward for the energy expended. But here the best ... has yet to come: the crucial point of the granfondo will be at the beginning of the climb that leads to Cimabanche, which from the top of its 1534 meters will make a selection and will put many cross-country skiers in difficulty. Once this last effort of the day has been overcome, the road that will lead to Cortina will be all downhill, but woe to claim victory too soon because there will still be 12 km to go. The wait is about to end and the tracks ... of snow of the old railway are about to come alive with the passage of the athletes. Registration closes on January 19th, there is no more time to waste.
