Forbidden fluoride? The ski houses intend to claim 10 million damages to the FIS

The case of fluorine has been defined and for months now it has been discussing the whole world of cross-country skiing and beyond. A question of harmful products for health, according to the FIS which has decided to ban them starting from the next vintage, but also of interests that are intertwined with related controversies. As Stefano Arcobelli writes in "La Gazzetta dello Sport", several ski manufacturers intend to continue the legal action against the international federation, which leads to a claim for damages for ten million euros. Many companies, in fact, have already produced thousands of skis made unusable due to a ban that leads to various discussions, also due to the ways in which the FIS has moved and which could lead it to have to defend itself up to the court of justice of the '' European Union. The top management is criticized for not having consulted the manufacturers and for having banned the use of fluorinated products without having the certainty of being able to carry out checks for any irregularities, and then deciding to set up a commission to ensure that the rules are respected . In addition, since the meeting last February during the biathlon world championships in Anterselva, the choice of the Ibu had been to postpone a decision in this sense, with the risk of seeing houses (and therefore athletes) able to take advantage from the situation. And the request that comes from many sides is that the FIS will extend this change for cross-country skiing at least at the end of the four-year period that will lead to the Beijing Olympic Games 2022.
