It is one of the most anticipated moments of the year for Trentino, namely the delivery of the prestigious Aquila di San Wenceslao, the honor conferred by the Autonomous Province of Trento for particular cultural, educational, social, economic, sporting and institutional merits. .
The award will celebrate the commitment and dedication shown over the years by the Marcialonga which, since 1971, has accompanied and enlivened the winters and beyond, in the Fiemme and Fassa Valleys. A 50-year history that, on the occasion of such an important anniversary, will celebrate the moment with the opening of the exhibition dedicated to this half-century partnership, set up in the main square in Moena by the Trentino Historical Museum Foundation. Who knows if, in that distant 1971, the four historical creators of Marcialonga, Mario Cristofolini, Giulio Giovannini, Roberto Moggio and Nele Zorzi, really imagined they could change the way of thinking of an entire population thanks to an event that would enter the ranks of the most important and recognized sporting events in the world, as well as in the heart of a myriad of fans.
The fact is that, to date, all this has become reality and every year Marcialonga manages to give incredible emotions thanks to the commitment of the staff and many volunteers led by Angelo Corradini. In addition to being the highest recognition that the Autonomous Province of Trento can confer on a character or an institution, the Eagle of St. Wenceslas stands out on the coat of arms of the Province, the Region and the Municipality of Trento, depicting an "eagle unfolded in black, beaked, armed and equipped on the wings with two trifoliate stems of gold, tongued and sprinkled with flames of red "as described in the" Recognition Decree "drawn up on May 6, 1930.
A real symbol that distinguishes and identifies the Trentino world, but what is the reason for this representation? Originally it was the coat of arms belonging to the Bohemian dynasty of the Přemyslids which, once the last heir Wenceslas III was dead, was first taken up by the then Prince Bishop of Trento as a coat of arms of the bishopric and, secondly, from 1407 onwards , also became the official coat of arms of the city and of the institutions. On Saturday 26 June in Moena, therefore, the President of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Maurizio Fugatti, will confer the prestigious Aquila di San Wenceslao to the Marcialonga Committee in the person of Angelo Corradini, as recognition of an entire province for a work always carried out to the best and in full respect of all the sporting and human values that have characterized the event in the Fiemme and Fassa Valleys over the years.
A precious and well-deserved recognition for continuing to write the history of a 50-year-long project.
