Green light for the Tour de Ski in Val di Fiemme. After the Davos World Cup races, a new conference call between the FIS and the three organizers of the related stages of the 15th edition of the challenge that will begin on January 1, 2021, bringing the caravan of cross-country skiers to decide the ranking in Val di Fiemme from Friday 8 to Sunday 10.
There were certainly no doubts about the dispute of the races, if anything about some participation. Now - Norway aside, and obviously very sorry for the absence of all the big names in the reference squadron - all the other nations will be there, including Sweden and Finland.
Obviously there is also a lot of anticipation for the Italian national team, with Federico Pellegrino and especially Francesco De Fabiani in the final standings perspective. In Val di Fiemme we will compete in both techniques and there will also be the sprint, albeit in classic, with Pellegrino who will be returning from an encore attempt, after the victory in Davos, next weekend in Dresden.
In the meantime, the organizational project is being brought into focus in Lago di Tesero and on the ramps of Alpe Cermis. There are many limitations due to the pandemic, but none capable of affecting the spectacle and results. It is obvious that everything will be centered on the "bubble" that will put athletes and staff safe: for them protected environments, safe corridors and practically non-existent contacts outside the competition relations. There will be no public, this is the sore point, but never mind, the live TV will allow you to admire in detail every moment of the race.
The whole Val di Fiemme, and therefore also Lago di Tesero, offer whitewashed and truly inviting views. The 1.5 km track, used by the sprint of the Cup, is already ready, and also the 2.5 km one is about to be polished, only some details of the technical and television set-up are missing and also this time the organizers from Fiemme they will be ready in advance. Even the ascent of Cermis is covered with snow, alpine skiing is stopped for the moment, so until the beginning of January the track will be reserved for the Tour de Ski and after the holiday period the lifts will open - barring unforeseen arrangements - to skiers.
Even the Marcialonga track - and in particular the stretch from Lago di Tesero to Masi where the athletes of the Tour de Ski will be channeled after a passage inside the Lago stadium - is about to be open, it will be up to the fans to test it in the days preceding the race. In detail, the program announces the mass start on Friday 8 January. The 15 km, with 6 laps on the 2.5 km ring, is one of the most demanding of the world circus, it doesn't leave you breathless with continuous ups & downs. For women, the race will be 10 km, obviously mass start, with 4 laps. A few hours to take a breath and then on Saturday there will be the sprint in classic, prelude to the representative race of the entire Tour de Ski, the Final Climb of Cermis. Ten kilometers in free technique for both males and females, with the difference in altitude of 420 meters on the last 3.5 km all uphill and with ramps that touch 30%.
