A gesture of a great champion, to definitively close a case that would have risked to last even weeks.
Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo, via social media, announced that he had asked his federation to withdraw the appeal that could also lead to the return of that gold medal that the Norwegian champion won on the track last Sunday in the 50 km which closed the world championships in Oberstdorf.
“I asked the federation to withdraw the appeal - the words of Klaebo - They were difficult days, I lived emotionally on a roller coaster. This case has become much bigger than the competition itself, it is wrong to decide the result of a competition in the office; it wouldn't be the same to get the gold medal again after days of the best race of my career. I lost that feeling on Sunday, but I will always believe that I have done nothing wrong and that I have not impeded anyone.
Now I want to focus on next weekend's World Cup races and congratulate Emil (Iversen, who acquired gold ahead of Bolshunov and Krueger after Klaebo's disqualification) for the title, I think it deserves a real celebration. And at the same time, I congratulate Bolshunov on the silver: he is a great athlete and we will have more tough competitions in the future. We look forward".
