In Val di Fiemme it is time to get ready for the three decisive days of the Tour de Ski 2023, which will end on Sunday on the Alpe del Cermis, but will experience a very intense Friday full of blue expectations, given that in Lago di Tesero there will be a Another sprint, this time in the classic, with Federico Pellegrino (2nd in the general classification behind Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo) who will aim for the fourth podium in five races, but in which Simone Mocellini himself could do very well.
Meanwhile, the countdown continues for the stage of the World Cup which will see cross-country skiing land, for the first time in history, at an altitude of 1800 meters in Livigno; on the weekend of 21-22 January, on the snow of Little Tibet, here are the two sprint races (individual and for teams) that directly follow the conclusion of the Tour de Ski, given that from Val di Fiemme you will return to the gate directly in Valtellina.
The teams will begin to reach the Livigno area starting from 9 January, thus finding time to acclimatize to the 1800 meters of altitude and test the track, unveiled today in preview. A length between 1200 and 1250 meters, for a completely new route, unprecedented even for those who already know the snow of Livigno. The Rin Da Rin area was chosen, in the central block of the cross-country track, just above the entrance to the cross-country skiing center and near the Snowfarm.
Start and finish are both located in the Rin Da Rin climb, but separate, to guarantee the public a breathtaking finish. The athletes start uphill, reaching the Snowfarm area and immediately trying to make a selection. The course continues downhill, with two very fast and technical banked turns which lead to a second climb, with a 12-metre drop: the last chance to separate from the others before the final straight. And the final straight is the real highlight of the track: a very long finish line, built ad hoc to allow the athletes to challenge each other openly, minimizing the risk of collisions and falls.
Almost 350 meters of sprint, also developed with important amplitudes, to offer a perfect view to the public in the parterre and a clean lane for each of the participants. Overall, it is a classic design: the right meeting point between technicality and spectacle, which lends itself well to welcoming fans, for whom admission will be free, always guaranteeing a complete perspective of the track from every vantage point. The ideal way to enjoy the performances of Federico Pellegrino, Johannes Hoesflot Klæbo, Richard Jouve, Nadine Faendrich, Maja Dahlqvist and all the other champions who will give life to a special weekend.
