The Tour de Ski has for many years been at the center of the discussions of the enthusiasts and the experts themselves, but it seems that the time has come to change for the event that should represent the fulcrum of the season and, too often, it is also snubbed by the athletes in the running for the World Cup (just think of Therese Johaug, who did not win the crystal ball because of the points left at the turn of the New Year).
We had already talked about it in recent weeks, announcing the meeting in Milan between FIS and Infront to discuss possible changes to the competition format; on Norwegian television NRK, Vegard Ulvang confirmed that there is already an agreement with the TV to propose very significant changes, in particular for the final day towards Alpe Cermis. "After 13 years, the Tour de Ski needs to be revitalized - the words of the Norwegian champion, now president of the FIS commission for the fund, which will meet at the congress of the international federation scheduled for late May in Cavtat-Dubrovnik, Croatia - Too many stars skip this appointment and too many leave it in the running, which is also why the idea is that of a start in line for the final stage, as well as creating a separate classification for sprinters, modifying the bonus seconds system â€.
We are also planning to modify the Cup calendar, "freeing up" the race weekends that precede the start and following the conclusion of the Tour de Ski, but "this move could only be feasible from the 2019/2020 season", Ulvang confirmed.
