In Val di Fiemme we work hard for the Tour de Ski. With the dream of seeing Pellegrino and De Fabiani in front

From 8 to 10 January the grand finale of the 15th edition, with Chicco aiming for the sprint in classic ("I want to make up for 2020") and Francesco for the general classification.

Mass start of 10 and 15 km in classic on Friday, sprint in classic on Saturday and Final Climb mass start in skating on Sunday 10 January 2021, all between the Lago di Tesero stadium and Alpe Cermis. Val di Fiemme is already ready for the grand finale of the 15th Tour de Ski, which will start on Friday 1 January with the free technique sprint on the snows of Val Mustair (where it will remain until Sunday 3, before arriving in Italy). Until 2019, with the last pursuit stage, the first to cross the finish line on the Cermis was the overall winner. From 2020 with the race becoming mass start, the suspense increases, it is necessary to quickly count the gaps, so much so that the Norwegians Krueger and Roethe last January presented themselves first at the peak of the Final Climb, but it was the third, Bolshunov, to take home a "lot" of money. Yes, because the overall victory of the Tour is worth a lot, for this 2021 edition the figure rises to 68,000 Swiss Francs, at the exchange rate over 62,000 euros for both men and women. A nest egg that is only a part of the entire prize pool of the challenge, which over 8 days of competition awards a total of 672 thousand francs (620 thousand euros). But the great challenge that culminates on Alpe Cermis also dispenses a number of points capable of conditioning the World Cup: the absolute winner takes home 400 points, in addition each stage also assigns (reduced) points for the race to the ball crystal. It can be said without a shadow of denial that the Fiemme races are the highlight of the World Cup and the Tour de Ski, a success certified by the record number of viewers documented over the years. The mass start of 10 and 15 km in classic is already hard on its own, after 5 days of competitions it is even more so. The ascents in succession of Lago di Tesero, cross-country center now elected as the Olympic venue for the 2026 Nordic races, are really tough. First the "Valena", then the "Pojer", and again the "Brink" (dedicated to the famous Swedish champion who in 2003 made his team lose the world relay, going into crisis on that climb), to finish with the climb “Zorzi” (which has nothing to do with the legendary “Zorro”), for 6 laps for males and 4 for females. Everything and more has been said about the Final Climb. It is as beautiful and spectacular as it is exhausting, but even the sprint on Saturday is demanding, and Federico Pellegrino, who came out in the quarter-finals in 2020, knows it well. it is a little more positivity, I am aware of my means and above all starting the Tour de Ski with a sprint skating, in Val Mustair, gives me a lot of stimulus and motivation. Since last year they have added the points classification for the sprinters, last season I gave up abandoning after the sprint in Val di Fiemme, this year I don't know, surely I will do the first stages 100% trying to give everything , and then based on how the first stage will go I will see how to interpret the remaining ones. Surely the sprint of Val di Fiemme left a bitter taste in my mouth and I would like to make up for it ”. Who in Val di Fiemme has had highs, indeed "very high" and lows is Francesco De Fabiani, 2nd in 2019 in the mass start and 9th final. "This is a season that has given me good satisfaction so far - says De Fabiani - and the sensations are completely different from those of last year, when in the Tour de Ski I had to stop my race in the middle, I had not even reached Val di Fiemme. My goal is to improve ninth place, because two years ago starting from fourth I had lost a bit too much on the Cermis climb, which will certainly never become my favorite race in which I can try to gain, but I can limit my damage. I have never done the Cermis race with mass start and it will be a novelty for me, in the Tour de Ski there are always many favorable stages for me, mass starts are my favorites, especially in classic, but in general the races where you run on the man are those where I express myself best ". That of 2021 will be an anomalous edition, conditioned by the pandemic. Great work by the Fiemme committee: “A very special edition - says the president Bruno Felicetti - that puts us to the test in terms of health checks and procedures to ensure maximum safety for all accredited. Thanks to all the organizational team for their efforts especially in these last days of preparation and to all the volunteers who will undergo the swab at the beginning of January. We were able to "reward" them with a new uniform, the result of the synergy between the Autonomous Province of Trento and Coop with the active participation of both the Cooperative Families of Val di Fiemme, Trentino, Coop Italia and even Coop Norway, which in Val di Fiemme is feel like home. Our many supporters wish you Happy Holidays, a better 2021 and follow us on TV ”.
