The fiftieth anniversary edition, valid for the Visma Ski Classics circuit, rewards the Scandinavians in a day of celebration for over 1500 fans.

After 10 years, Sweden today dominates the Marcialonga and not only with males, thanks to Emil Persson, but also with females with Lina Korsgren, new leaders of Ski Classics.
The snow that arrived during the night messed up the plans of many big names in the 48th Marcialonga, but perhaps it increased even more - if possible - the spectacle on the snows of the Fiemme and Fassa valleys. A very hard-fought men's race from the start of Moena to the end, with the Cascata climb to select the large group that has played tactics so far, safeguarding the precious energy for the final kilometers. At the turning point of Molina di Fiemme there are more than 20 athletes who seem to be able to fight for the victory, but on the last climb the turning point takes place. The Norwegian Petter Eliassen takes the lead to increase the pace, to which few know how to respond quickly: the first to take the tails of the 2019 winner is the other Norwegian Tord Asle Gjerdalen, followed by the Swedish duo formed by Oskar Kardin and Emil Persson.
Behind there seems to be no one else able to keep up with the pace of the first four, at least until the arc of the last km: this is where the Russian Ermil Vokuev unleashes with a powerful push able to recover, in the blink of an eye. '' watch out, as many as 14 positions, even taking the lead in the race. For the Scandinavians there is no joke and a second defeat after Dobbiaco, especially in their Marcialonga, would be truly unforgivable. This is how the attacks of Persson and Gjerdalen rained down, shattering Russian certainties and bringing a truly incredible sprint to Cavalese.
To bring Sweden back to the roof of the Marcialonga, after 10 years of fasting, the young Emil Persson takes care of it, placing himself behind “Mister RayBan”, not just anyone, Tord Asle Gjerdalen, while in third place the surprising Russian Ermil Vokuev. Among the Italians, the best was Mauro Brigadoi of Team Sottozero, 24th at the finish.
Competition also fought among women, with three Nordic athletes fighting for the podium until a few kilometers from the end. The ascent of Cascata is, once again, decisive for the final fate of the standings with the Swedes Lina Korsgren and Ida Dahl teaming up to break the Norwegian Emilie Fleten. After the podium at Dobbiaco-Cortina, they are again sharing the top three positions at Marcialonga. To triumph in Cavalese is Korsgren, who repeats last Sunday's victory, preceding the Norwegian Fleten and, further away, the other Swedish Dahl.
The best Italian is Ilenia Defrancesco of the Army Sports Center, who skied at home being from Masi di Cavalese, finished 18th, while a little further back the policewoman FF.OO., Sara Pellegrini of Team Robinson Trentino at the end of 21st. At the Stadio del Salto di Predazzo, on the other hand, the “Light” ended after 43.5 km: for the men it was Mattia Armellini (FF.OO.) who took the victory, after a ski race with the big names in the long run. Behind him was placed the German Max Olex in the sprint on the other athlete FF.OO. Davide Facchini.
Female race dominated by the athlete from Castello di Fiemme of Team Sottozero Stefania Corradini, despite an inconvenience that forced her to ski with only one ski for two km during the race. In second place the South Tyrolean Thea Schwingshackl of Team Futura Trentino Alta Quota, while on the third step of the podium was the Venetian Anna Bolzan of the Orsago Sci Club. Sunday morning which included, in addition to the highlight, also the Marcialonga Young dedicated to young people, with the Allievi categories won by Arianna Broch and Nicola Romagna, Aspirants conquered by Sabrina Nicolodi and Riccardo Foradori, while the Junior categories with Valentina Loss and Simone Mastrobattista in first place.
The closure is obviously up to Angelo Corradini, Marcialonga president and first supporter of this beautiful event: “There were some concerns on the eve, but today they all dissolved. Covid did not make the atmosphere relaxed and even the forecasts did not leave us calm, but in the end it was worth it ". A final encouragement to the organizers of the upcoming events: "Life must go on - continues Corradini - We must commit ourselves and work hard, we cannot stop". Worthy of note is the great commitment of the organizing committee, which made the gattisti leave again in the early afternoon to fix the track in view of the passage of the surviving “bison”, the real driving force of this Marcialonga.
