The German Ski Federation has formalized the composition of its national teams in view of the season 2017-18. At the bottom there is a big increase in the number of athletes included in the elite Working Groups.

Head coach Andreas Schlütter explained this fact by saying that "we have to work on two fronts. On the one hand, the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Games, on the other, the World Cups of Oberstdorf 2021. For this reason, it is necessary to have a large number of athletes, especially young people, in federal groups.
The nomination suggests how to work primarily on women, but we also want to develop a quality male team. "
In detail, team 1A will consist of 13 elements, 5 men and 8 women. In the women's field confirmed the seven already present in the season just finished, to which was added Sofie Krehl. In the men's field, however, Thomas Bing, Lucas Bögl and Florian Notz are promoted, while Andreas Katz is downgraded to Team 1B.
The latter will be formed by 18 units, nine by sex, with a huge increase over 2016-17.
There will be little change on the technical front. Group 1A, which includes the absolute elite, will always be followed by Torstein Drivenes (women) and Janko Neuber (men). Regarding Group 1B, for the confirmed girls Markus Hofmann, while the newly appointed male Axel Teichmann will be added to Bernd Raupach.
