The main slogan of the Gran Fondo Val Casies is “One idea, one vision, many emotions”, but the prevailing and reinforcing one is 37 editions without ever cancellation. But in the face of the pandemic persevering, even the determined and tough organizing committee of the famous South Tyrolean granfondo has to give up: the 2021 edition initially scheduled for 20 and 21 February, then moved to 6 and 7 March, has been definitively canceled.
The Province of Bolzano has extended the lockdown and even if, perhaps, the race could only be offered to professionals, the mission that Gran Fondo Val Casies as an authentic cross-country skiing party for everyone would have failed, especially for that myriad of passionate cross-country skiers who come from all over Italy and all over the world The track would be in ideal conditions to host the race, the large amount of snow still allows for free skiing. The organizational machine has never stopped and indeed, had refined even the smallest details to give an event in complete safety, but the rules must be respected, so the board meeting last night could not do anything but take note of the provisions that for limiting the contagion of the virus necessarily oblige to surrender.
No problem for members, whoever paid the fee can request the full refund of the registration fee or keep it valid for the 2022 edition. In short, the situation is still delicate, it is hoped that the sacrifices of now can lead to a concrete improvement in general. Val Casies is beautiful in all seasons, for those who love outdoor sports and the quiet life in the open air it is an absolutely suggestive place. The invitation is to visit it also in summer to get to know it better in winter, the motto always remains "One idea, one vision, many emotions".
