The 47th edition of the "classic" of cross-country skiing gave an extraordinary spectacle and was decided only in the last meters, in the alleys of Cavalese.

Along the 70 km between the Val di Fiemme and the Val di Fassa many have tried to go on the run. However, the snow conditions, which made the track even more demanding and brought the race beyond three hours, did not make a big difference. Both the men's and women's races were therefore decided at the end of the "climb of the waterfall", a real bogeyman for professionals and amateurs. Among the men the Norwegian Tore Bjoerseth Berdal, winner last year of the Vasaloppet, launched the sprint at 250 m with an action of power and agility he took the final straight in command, leaving no escape for compatriots Tord Asle Gjerdalen (already three sometimes owner of Marcialonga) and Petter Eliassen, defending champion. Sjur Roethe finished in the top 10 after returning from yesterday's skiathlon in 3rd place, while Dario Cologna finished 25th. In the women's field, however, there was a duel, also in this case entirely Norwegian, between Astrid Oeyre Slind and Kari Vikhage Gjeitnes. The latter attempted an action from a distance of 7 km from the finish but was then achieved with a powerful action by the rival. After going downhill together with the "ascent of the waterfall", when the slopes softened, Gjeitnes increased the frequencies and triumphed with a 7 "margin on Slind and over 40" on the Swedish Lina Korsgren.
