The cross-country skiing World Cup finals will not be played: Federico Pellegrino wins the sprint cup!

The FIS has communicated that the World Cup finals, which should have taken place in Lillehammer, will not be made up anywhere. As there are no more sprint races, therefore, Pellegrino wins his second sprint cup, after the one obtained in 2016.

On the eve of the World Cup in Oberstdorf, sensational news arrives: the finals of the Cross-Country Skiing World Cup will not be played; this allows "Chicco" Pellegrino to officially win his second sprint cup, repeating the success obtained in the 2015/2016 season. Pellegrino had already mortgaged the specialty cup after the very good 3rd place obtained, two weeks ago, in the Ulricehamn sprint; the thirty-year-old from Valle d'Aosta, in fact, led the standings with 70 points ahead of the Russian Retivykh. Federico Pellegrino, this season, has been able to triumph on three occasions (Davos, Dresden and in the prologue of the Tour de Ski in Val Mustair), victories that have allowed him to consolidate his leadership, race after race. Among the women the specialty cup goes to the Slovenian Anamarija Lampic. For the 25-year-old from Ljubljana this is the first prestigious specialty cup of her career, matured thanks to the four podiums obtained during the World Cup season. With the finals that will not be played (in Lillehammer they have been canceled due to the restrictions imposed by the Norwegian government) the Cross-Country Skiing World Cup will end on the weekend of 13-14 March, with the races scheduled in the Engadine.
