Livigno, what a show: historic first in the Cross-country World Cup instead of ... Milan

It is official: the free technique sprints originally planned in the Lombard capital, which raised the white flag due to energy costs, will be held in "Little Tibet" on 21-22 January 2023.

A historic first, for a location increasingly at the center of the panorama of winter disciplines at an international level, home to the training of many champions and Olympic site for the Milan Cortina 2026 Games (with snowboard and freestyle competitions). Livigno can now toast to a great novelty, that of being able to host the Cross-Country Skiing World Cup, while at the end of the season the maximum parallel snowboard circuit will also return. The FIS has formalized the decision to move the sprint races (individual and team sprint, both in free technique) initially scheduled for 21-22 January 2023 in Milan, in the heart of City Life, on the same dates but in the Valtellina area. "In particular due to the large increase in energy costs that the organization of the event in the city center would have found - explained the FIS in its press release, explaining the renunciation of having the event held in the Lombard capital - the conclusion was to move the competitions to Livigno, which offers all the facilities for a favorable logistical arrangement for the whole family of the international fund ”. “Obviously we try to make as few changes to the calendar as possible - added race director Michal Lamplot - However, we are aware of the challenges that the organizers are facing in this period with global problems affecting their events. This is why we remain in constant dialogue and must be able to react in time; with Livigno the FISI presented an excellent alternative for the Sprint weekend in January and we can't wait to start the final preparations ”. APT Livigno itself has expressed all its satisfaction for having obtained such recognition in the "Little Tibet". On the other hand, the relationship between the Valtellina locality and the discipline is rooted in time, as certified by the participation in the Ski Classic long distance circuit, by the organization of different stages of the Italian Cup and by the traditional Sgambeda, the granfondo that, next December 18th, it will celebrate its thirty-second edition. A real cross-country skiing paradise, whose path of excellence, with the assignment of the World Cup stage, finally reaches the world summit. In particular for Federico Pellegrino and Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo, who played the last two Olympic titles of the Sprint with the Norwegian in front of the blue in PyeongChang 2018 and Beijing 2022, it will be a very special weekend since both train often in Livigno.
