The Alta Valtellina Ski Club forced to cancel the FIS and OPA Cup races in the coming weeks

Two classic events of the fund canceled due to the pandemic situation. Gran Fondo della Val Casies confirmed on February 20, 2021.

The Alta Valtellina Ski Club has always supported and encouraged good practice of sport, passion and love for winter disciplines (biatlhon, cross-country, skialp). With great commitment and passion for more than 50 years, he has been working and believing in all this, thanks to the passion of the volunteers, the work of the coaches and technicians and the commitment to the snow world of children and teenagers. Given the current situation and the continuous evolution of the Covid-19 emergency, as well as the provisions of the Prime Ministerial Decree of 4 November 2020, in agreement with the local institutions involved, the Alta Valtellina Ski Club Council has communicated that the originally planned races on 28 and 29 November in Santa Caterina Valfurva and from 18 to 20 December in Valdidentro they will not take place. Although the will and commitment to find and look for new strategies, the decision was made in the awareness that the environmental and health conditions do not exist such as to allow the normal running of the "Dante Canclini Trophy", FIS race in Santa Caterina Valfurva and of the OPA Cup scheduled in Valdidentro, in total safety for both the athletes and the staff involved in organizing them. With the hope that the pandemic emergency will allow a reorganization of events in the future, with a view to an always effective and lasting collaboration with the FISI. The 38th edition of the Gran Fondo Val Casies, scheduled for 20 February 2021, has been confirmed, at least for now. The current main issue is the development of a "coronavirus version", in close collaboration with the relevant authorities, which should be ready by the end of December. Since cross-country skiing is an open-air sport that does not involve contacts, it should not be difficult to prepare a different method of carrying it out, whose primary purpose is naturally the protection of the health of participants and collaborators. Should any problems arise, on January 20 (one month before the date of the race) the organizers would cancel the event, leaving the members the possibility to decide whether to credit the participation fee paid for the 2022 edition or request the refund of the entire amount. During the summer, intense work was done, especially in order to consolidate the financial foundations for this great event. The organizing committee is pleased that, despite the pandemic, all sponsors continue to support the event without reducing their contributions by one euro.
