Marcialonga does it once again, and in Val di Fiemme and Val di Fassa the concept of tradition and re-enactment of the past is well rooted in the souls of the people of these two valleys and in the spirit of the most loved by Italians and beyond.
To anticipate the highlight of the real Marcialonga, which will start on Sunday 30 January at 8.00, will be the Marcialonga Story scheduled for Saturday 29 with start at 9.30, on the 12 km track from the Stadio del Fondo di Lago di Tesero to in Predazzo. Nearly 300 cross-country skiers will dust off “vintage” pre-1976 clothing and equipment, as required by the event as a revival. The parade will bring together people from all eras to celebrate the past of cross-country skiing, and like every year there will be numerous special guests including Marco Albarello, Olympic and world champion in cross-country skiing, Franco Ianeselli, mayor of the city of Trento, Mauro Gilmozzi, former provincial councilor and former mayor of Cavalese, Gianluca Cavada, provincial councilor and Pietro De Godenz, president of the Provincial Committee for the Promotion of Skiing in Val di Fiemme, accompanied by his daughter Alice.
The audience will be missing upon arrival, which every year used to warmly welcome the spectacular folkloristic parade, instead in the departure area in Lago di Tesero, at 9 am, it will be possible to attend the ceremony of delivery of the wooden plaque (km 3) dedicated to the Municipality of Panchià. In the afternoon, always in the center of the Lago di Tesero cross-country ski area, the 21st edition of Marcialonga Stars will start, the non-competitive cross-country skiing or snowshoeing that every year involves several famous people to support the charity initiative of the LILT (Italian League for the fight against cancer - Provincial Section of Trento ONLUS).
The start is scheduled at 1 pm and the testimonials at the start will be Antonio Molinari, Franco Nones, Renato Travaglia, Cristian Zorzi, Antonella Confortola, Jonathan Wyatt, Claudia Paolazzi, Marco Albarello, don Franco Torresani, Roberto Sighel and Francesco Moser. Furthermore, on Saturday, again on the slopes of Lago di Tesero, the 12th Marcialonga Young will be staged, with the races dedicated to the U14-U16 categories starting at 10.30, while on Sunday at 8.45 the U18-U20s will take to the track. All to be discovered is the “Marcialonga 50Y” exhibition set up in Via Roma in Canazei, next to the track, to take a dip in the past and to retrace the first 50 years of Marcialonga.
Viewers at home will be able to savor some anticipation of the granfondo on Saturday 29th with live links together with correspondents Elisa Calcamuggi, Pietro Nicolodi and Francesco Pierantozzi in the editions of SkySport24, between 1pm and 7pm. Sunday, on Sky Sport Uno and Sky Sport Arena , the Marcialonga will be live at 7.35 am, after which from 12 there will be connections with SkySport24 until the arrival of the last competitor (about 6 pm). A 2-hour summary of Marcialonga on Sky Sport Action will follow at 16.30, while at 9.45pm the rerun with a 2-hour summary on Sky Sport Arena. On Monday 31st the reruns will be broadcast on the Sky Sport Uno channel at 9.30 am, at 8.45 pm on Sky Sport Arena, finally for fans who are abroad Marcialonga will also be broadcast on the main European TVs. Countdown therefore for the most exciting "return to the past" in history and for the 49th edition of the legendary Marcialonga.
