Pellegrino "cooked", no duel with Klaebo (winner) in the sprint of Toppidrettsveka: Comarella splendid on the 25 km

Second day of the Norwegian event, not without controversy due to problems with skirolls in distance races ...

A bit of everything happened today at Toppidrettsveka, with some highs and lows for the Azzurri and a failed duel between Federico Pellegrino, after his debut with victory at the BlinkFestivalen, and Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo. So let's start with the classic men's sprint which was staged in the late afternoon; it would have had to compete in free technique, but the chaos triggered by a flaw in the roller skis for many athletes has advised the organizers to a substantial change. The host and great favorite had an easy game, with Klaebo dominant in the final in front of compatriots Aune and Larsen. The other two most anticipated men, Bolshunov and Pellegrino, were already out of the game as the Russian was eliminated in the semifinals, while the vice Olympic champion of the specialty had not passed the qualification; "Chicco" signed only the 40th time (just in front of his teammates Rastelli and Zelger), at 11 seconds from Riseth, in a full load period and after playing the 47 km classic of the previous evening. Azzurri without placements, given that Francesco De Fabiani had actually passed the cut, but he gave up the quarter-finals after suffering a problem with his elbow. In the women's sprint, another all Norwegian triumph with Ane Appelkvist Stenseth who folded Tiril Udnes Weng, Lotte Udnes Weng and Anna Svendsen. The blue ones? Lucia Scardoni finished ninth, going out in the semifinals, while Greta Laurent's adventure ended in the quarterfinals, after having signed a great 5th qualifying run. The influential Elisa Brocard, Caterina Ganz and Anna Comarella did not take part in the afternoon trial. In the morning, on the occasion of the free technique distance races over 25 km, there was a bit of chaos and races conditioned by the problem to the roller skis for many athletes, with falls in series and the decision not to consider the race valid for the general classification of the event, while awarding the expected cash prize. Among the boys, success for the Russian Alexey Chervotkin in 59''27 "8, in front of a certain Dario Cologna, with the Swiss Olympian detached by only 5 seconds, and the Norwegian Didrik Toenseth (at 7" 8). The Azzurri were three at the finish line: Giandomenico Salvadori 62nd at 5''53 "5, Francesco De Fabiani 76th at 10''40" 8 and Stefan Zelger, at the end 81st at 13''36 "6, while Federico Pellegrino retired and Maicol Rastelli before the sprint. In the women's race (more regular from the technical point of view), the performance of a splendid Anna Comarella stands out, having reached the second place just 4 "7 from the American Sadie Bjoernsen, winner with a time of 1h10''12". Third place for the Norwegian Marte Skaanes at 16 ", while among the other Italians she placed 15th Caterina Ganz, spaced 2''24" 1, with Elisa Brocard 21st at 7''18 "4.
