Tragedy touched on the night between Monday and Tuesday when a small van, coming from Switzerland, lost its way and fell over 50 meters into the semi-frozen lake of Livigno.

The trip to Livigno of a group of athletes and members of the technical staff of the Russian cross-country ski team could have turned into a tragedy. Late on Monday evening a part of the Russian expedition, which will take part in the Tour de Ski, had landed in Zurich and then headed to Italy for some training sessions.
The minibus had just passed the Gallo tunnel and near a tunnel the driver of the vehicle had lost control due to the icy road. Unfortunately, this happened on a stretch of road without a guardrail and so the small van crashed over 50 meters towards the frozen lake.
The layer of ice present, fortunately, prevented the van from sinking and so, by breaking the windows, the passengers were able to get out and call first aid. The firefighters, mountain rescue and local police immediately arrived on the spot; after securing the unfortunates, brought for checks at the Casa della Salute in Livigno, the vehicle was removed from the frozen surface on Tuesday morning.
