There is no good news for the world of cross-country skiing: the Nove Mesto World Cup stage, originally scheduled from 20 to 21 February, has been canceled. The FIS decision came today; a choice almost forced by the restrictions imposed by the German government, which recently closed the borders with the Czech Republic. Considering that the stage on Czech soil should have been held a few days before the World Championship in Oberstdorf, a quarantine for athletes and technicians would have been necessary , which would have made it impossible for them to participate in the world championship event. After this cancellation, the World Cup season could, sensationally, have already ended. In fact, as reported in recent days, the two final Norwegian stages have been canceled and therefore, after the World Championships in Obertsdorf (23 February-7 March), the cross-country skiing season could already come to an end. The solution to not lose the last races of the season could be to compete in Nove Mesto after the world championship. The FIS will make all the necessary assessments in the coming days, taking into account that in Nove Mesto it will not be possible to compete until March 14, as six biathlon World Cup races are scheduled.
