The women's 30 km and men's 50 km of the 2023 Nordic World Ski Championships, which will take place in Planica in Slovenia, should start from the Friulian town, giving life to a route that will cross the Italian-Slovenian border.

The organization of the 2023 Nordic World Ski Championships, scheduled in Planica, is proceeding smoothly. A few days ago, the sixth meeting of the FIS coordination group took place, which, in addition to the general secretary Michele Vion, was also attended by Infront, the Organizing Committee, the Slovenian Ski Federation and the local authorities.
The excellent facilities already present in the Slovenian town have made the task of the organizers easier, who are already well underway with the works in view of the world championship event.
The real novelty of the meeting, however, concerns Italy: there are excellent chances that the distance races will start from Tarvisio, a Friulian municipality bordering the Slovenian territory, along the Alpe Adria cycle route. It would be an important opportunity for visibility for Friuli Venezia Giulia, as well as an atypical but characteristic and fascinating encroachment for a cross-country ski race.
After the first inspection carried out in June 2021 by the FISI and the FVG Committee, also attended by the Slovenian federation and the Organizing Committee, the FIS and Infront are working to implement this idea. The works seem to be directed towards the right way, all that remains is to wait for further positive confirmations from the next meeting relating to the World Championships in Planica, scheduled for April 2022.
