Cross-country skiing: the calendar for the 2021/2022 World Cup proposed

The final calendar will be ratified during the FIS congress in June; in addition, some changes relating to some race formats were discussed.

During the last FIS congress on cross-country skiing, among the various topics addressed, the calendar for the next World Cup season was certainly an important element of discussion. The 2021/2022 season will start on November 26 with the classic '' Ruka Nordic '', it will then continue in Lillehammer, Norway, a stage that due to the pandemic had to mark the white flag during the last season. Cross-country skiing 2021 will end with the stages of Davos and Dresden, while on December 28 the curtain will rise on the Tour de Ski, departing from Lenzerhaide. The new year will begin with a stage of the prestigious event in Oberstdorf, ending with two fascinating stages in our Val di Fiemme. After a weekend break, the World Cup will restart from Les Rousses, in France, then it will go to Planica, in Slovenia, for a stage that has been missing for several years in the circuit. In February there will be competitions only in Lahti on the last weekend of the month, as the Beijing Olympic Games will be staged (4-20 February). On March 3 there will be the midweek sprint of Drammen in Norway, while the weekend will be in Oslo. The regular season will end with the Swedish stage of Falun. For the World Cup finals they will fly to Tyumen, Siberia, with the last race of the season scheduled for March 20. The proposed calendar will be made definitive during the next FIS congress, where some changes on various formats will also be discussed; there is the idea, in the team-sprints, to bring the number of direct qualifiers for the final to four, reducing the number of lucky loosers to two.
