Cross-country skiing: Milan is back in the CdM 2022/2023 calendar! We are moving towards equal distances for men and women

Many innovations emerged from the FIS congress, including the return of the CdM to the Lombard capital, as well as the increasingly probable parity of mileage for the men's and women's races.

According to what has been learned from the official channels of the FIS, Italy will have a fundamental role in the calendar of the next World Cup season, as numerous races will take place within our territory. One of the main points of the last FIS congress was the provisional calendar for the next World Cup season, which will be approved on May 26, when the international federation meets in Milan. Present several news, as well as excellent news for the Italian movement of winter sports. The new season will start with the classic '' Ruka Nordic '', scheduled from 25 to 27 November; then we will go to Norway to tackle the stages of Lillehammer and the returning Bietostolen. The last pre-Christmas stage will be staged on the Swiss snows of Davos, on the weekend of 17 and 18 December. From 31 December to 8 January it will be the turn of the Tour de Ski, now in its 17th edition, divided between Val Muestair, Oberstdorf and Val di Fiemme, with the legendary climb to Alpe del Cermis at the end. A very welcome return will be the city sprint of Milan, after the success of 2012 it will be a tempting opportunity for both fans and organizers to have this race as present as possible within the CdM calendar. After the Milanese interlude it will be the turn of the French town of Les-Rousses, to then return again to Italy, for the South Tyrolean stage of Dobbiaco. The World Championships in Planica, Slovenia, will begin on February 22, 2023, and will end on March 5, 2023. The final rush of the 2022/2023 season will start from Oslo, followed by the classic round of Drammen. Falun and Tallin will host the last two stages before the Finnish finals in Lahti. The historic decision, on the other hand, concerns the equal distances between men's and women's competitions: with 57% of the favorable votes from the FIS council, starting from next season, men and women will compete on the same distances. The formats will be: sprint, 10 km, 20 km, skiathlon (10 km + 10 km) and 50 km. All the points dealt with in the last congress will have to be confirmed during the next session, scheduled for May 26 in Milan.
