Sprint Beitostlen: the young Klbo beats the big

It closes with a surprise the three-day Beitostølen races: the free technique sprint men, the young Johannes Høsflot Klæbo, twenty years made a month ago, has lined up the big names of the Norwegian national.

Few could doubt the talent of Klæbo that the junior World Championships in Rasnov had won the gold medal in both the sprint as TL in the 10 km CT, and then close the victorious relay team norge. Another account was, however, predict that the boy club Byåsen Idrettslag could leave behind so soon much of the world elite of the specialty. In a final race with authority as a veteran, resolved by an extension decided on the last ramp, Klæbo bent Pål Golberg, only one able to precede him in qualifying and contend for success until the final straight, and Finn Haagen Krogh. "It was an incredible day," he said after the race winner. "I could show what I'm worth even in a comparison with the best in the world." Golberg admitted bluntly that Klæbo was "Too fast, the better." On the same page Krogh wave, which said he was "impressed" but not surprised, having been able to see in practice the level reached by the young companion. Contrary to what happened in the women's field, the third and final round of Beitosprint was, even more than before, a Norwegian monologue: six athletes in six in the final eleven out of twelve in the semifinals, with the only intrusion of the Slovenian Miha Simenc. All this despite the absence of Petter Northug, who declined to recharge the batteries after the performances on Friday and Saturday undertone of distance. The family name was still held high by Tomas, author of the fifth best time in qualifying before being cut off by a fall in the semifinals, and especially by the younger of the brothers, Even, able to enter the final, finished in 6th place , behind Emil Iversen and Kasper Stadaas.
