Not just calendars. During the Portorose meeting, the FIS decided on some fundamental changes in cross-country skiing. Let's see what.

The main novelties are racing in classical technology.
In particular, it was decided to allow the introduction of areas where double poling is prohibited. This is a long-winded solution to assist the survival of the alternating step. However, there is no requirement for waxing.
It has also worked to clarify the rules on how to handle curves. In certain areas (which will be clearly indicated), you can skate with the outside skis to change direction.
In addition, it has been established that in sections where there are several tracks, it will be forbidden to change binary repeatedly or to exit and enter it continuously. It is not clear what is meant by "repeatedly" and "continuously", but it will probably be at the discretion of the jury.
An amendment was made to national quotas in multistage trials. Athletes included in the top 20 sprint specialty rankings will be eligible for extra-contingent participation. This move has been designed to encourage the participation of sprinters, generally closed by all-arounders, with the goal of raising the average level of sprints included in stage trials.
Finally, it also changes the type approval of the tracks. For races up to 10 km, a minimum altitude is introduced (except for skating sprints). For those over 10 km, any requirement in terms of altimetry is abolished.
