Everything is ready for Sgambeda number 31: on Saturday in Livigno the return of the great classic

Limited number race, with 500 participants to officially open the granfondo season: 30 km to be tackled in free technique.

Granfondo riders are trampling, even more skating lovers, because on Saturday 4th December the granfondo season officially opens in Livigno with the 31st edition of the “Sgambeda”. It is a "classic" in Little Tibet, where the snow always shows up well in advance. A whitewashed and dressed up Livigno in view of the Christmas holidays and a tempting opportunity for amateurs' first skiing, with the suggestion of spending Sunday between shopping and a few episodes on the slopes with companions and family. For this edition, the Livigno organizers have set a limited number of 500 members, in compliance with anti-Covid regulations. A number already reached, of course, and so on Saturday from the Cross-Country Center the usual multicolored wave of cross-country skiers will start: 30 km to be tackled in free technique in a single ring with start and finish at the Cross-Country Center. The athletes of the Italian Pro Teams who usually participate in the Visma Ski Classics long-distance championship, although it is in classic, are also noted among the members. Thus we will find in the front row the strongest bearers of Robinson Trentino, Futura Alta Quota Trentino and Internorm Trentino and, despite the different technique, it will be possible to understand the various states of form. Bruno Debertolis, team manager of Robinson Trentino, has summoned the foreigners of the Pro Team with the sole exception of Gifstad and the Russian Bagrashov, so we will see Frida Erkers, Nicole Donzallaz, Patrick Fossum Kristoffersen and Chiara Caminada at the start. The world roller ski champion Matteo Tanel, who knows how to have his say in skating, is not from the Pro Team, but from the Team Talent. With him also Cappello, Klettenhammer, Schwingshackl and the female Piller and Gentile. Team Futura focuses on Stefano Mich, Manuel Amhof and Julian Brunner, but also on the emerging Thea Schwingshackl. Watch out also for Team Internorm with the best blue in Ski Classics last season, Mauro Brigadoi, in the company of Ferrari, Busin and Lorenzi. Outside the teams there are other names that bring prestige to Sgambeda, such as Marianna Longa, the former blue who has enchanted so many fans and there will also be his brother Mattia, perhaps better known with mtb (Team Scott Italia) than with cross-country skis. Scrolling through the long list of entries you will come across Nikolaj Pankratov, world silver and bronze medal in the 2000s, and Diego Ruiz, the Spaniard who was also protagonist in the past at Marcialonga. The fact remains that the Sgambeda represents the amateurs' event par excellence, appreciated for the hospitality of the locality and for all the surroundings that the event offers. And on Sunday 5th there will also be a moment dedicated to young people with the Minisgambeda (start at 11 am). On Saturday until 10 am the bibs for the Sgambeda can be collected, while the start will be given at 11.
