"No snowflake ever falls in the wrong place." It's a Zen proverb that fits perfectly. The first snow has already arrived in Livigno and it did it in the right place.
A beautiful whitewash that seems to have been made on purpose to lengthen the cross-country track opened as early as October 23 thanks to snow-farming, a snowfall that allowed the technicians to prepare a loop of about three kilometers in the Biathlon Arena area. An extension of the track that the many athletes, champions and simple cross-country skiers, were waiting for, because there is a real crowding. Livigno is one of the few and privileged centers where cross-country skiers, without climbing the glacier but still remaining on the heights in a welcoming and pleasant location, can switch from roller skis to cross-country skis and prepare for the upcoming season, World Cup season with the classic Ruka's appointment in Finland and popular race season, coincidentally at the start in Livigno with the 31st edition of “La Sgambeda”, scheduled for Saturday 4 December.
The champions are quick to refine their form, while those who intend to participate in the historic and fascinating 35 km long-distance race in free technique still have a glimmer of 100 bibs available, numbers that are ... melting like snow in the sun. Quota quantities for this edition, on the decision of the organizers to fully comply with the containment rules of Covid, a limited number that will probably leave those who delay deciding on their feet, and not only in a metaphorical sense. Marianna Longa knows it well, the timeless Livigno champion of narrow skis, who doesn't want to miss it on Saturday 4th December.
Silver and world bronze, 10 podiums in the World Cup with two victories, Longa remains one of the most popular blue in cross-country skiing, a discipline he has never abandoned and which he often practices on the slopes of Livigno at a pure amateur level. On the other hand, those who are serious about this season's start in Livigno are the many athletes of the various national teams who have chosen the "Little Tibet" for their high-altitude training, and among them several well-known faces of world cross-country skiing with Johannes Klaebo to put themselves in shows, because he is preparing the Olympic season meticulously and in particular precisely in Livigno, openly declaring his love for the Italian town on his social channels.
Between the falling bows and the lengthening track, Livigno is taking on the color of a thousand lights that, as the Christmas holidays approach, embellish even more the town of Alta Valtellina, a land of sport, entertainment and shopping.
