Val di Fiemme ready for the final of the Tour de Ski: official dates from 6 to 8 January 2023

With the calendar of the next Cross-Country Skiing World Cup, here is the program of the central appointment of the season: Sprint, 15 km and the traditional climb to Alpe Cermis. No Nordic combined in 2022/23 for the works in Predazzo with a view to the 2026 Olympics.

It's all official now, the FIS Council has confirmed the dates of the Cross-Country Skiing World Cup on the 2022/23 calendar. Good, indeed excellent news arrives for the Organizing Committee of Fiemme World Cup: the 17th Tour de Ski will stop and end again in Val di Fiemme, the Olympic and world-wide valley of Nordic skiing and not surprisingly the only locality that has always been present since the birth of circuit. The mammoth lorries of the Tour de Ski will land in three countries, initially competing in Val Mustair, where a Sprint in free technique is scheduled on 31 December and a 10 km TC the next day. The caravan will then move to Germany, to Oberstdorf, for a 10 km TC and a 20 km in TL, while the grand finale will take place in Val di Fiemme, from 6 to 8 January 2023, with 3 days of exciting challenges awaited. at the cross-country skiing center of Lago di Tesero and on Alpe Cermis. The intense Trentino weekend will start at full speed with a Sprint in TC, favorable terrain for Federico Pellegrino, reigning Italian sprint champion and Olympic silver in Beijing. The next day the Cross-country skiing center of Lago di Tesero, the hub of winter events in the valley, will come alive for the 15 km in TC. The worthy conclusion will be reserved, as usual, to the spectacular Final Climb, or "Monster Climb" as the Norwegians call it, with the climb to Alpe del Cermis once again in free technique with 10 exhausting kilometers for both men and for women. From next season, in fact, males and females will face the same distances in all races, a decision taken following the meeting of the FIS Cross-Country Skiing Committee, the last with Vegard Ulvang as president. Last January the Norwegian champion Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo won his second Tour de Ski, while the Russian Natalia Nepryaeva, both winners of the World Cup, celebrated in the women. Last season the disappointment and misfortune of Francesco De Fabiani remains, who in the 15 km just started he fell and broke a ski, concluding in advance what was "his" race. With a touch of pride, the president of the Fiemme committee Bruno Felicetti affirms that he expected this assignment: “The races in Val di Fiemme are always the most viewed and appreciated in the cross-country world. Our organization, the result of the work of hundreds and hundreds of volunteers, the maniacal preparation of the tracks and the beauty of the locality are unparalleled. The final on the Cermis is always a spectacle ". Pietro De Godenz, president of the Committee for the promotion of skiing, adds: "That of 2023 will be a special season for the Trentino valley, after so many years there will be no appointment with the Nordic combined because the Predazzo jumping stadium is to be turned upside down by the updating work in view of the 2026 Olympics. The three disciplines, including jumping, will return to current events in 2025 with the pre-Olympic competitions ”.
