Vibeke Skofterud is recovering after being hospitalized in intensive care following a rhabdomyolysis.

The now former Norwegian cross-country skier in the World Cup, 34, announced the news via his blog: "After a few training sessions in my arms are swollen and seemed to burst; I was very worried, so I went to my family doctor and friend Erik who advised me to do blood tests to Drammen. The diagnosis is I suffer from rhabdomyolysis, which gave me kidney failure. The consequences may be small, but you can risking his life. I feel better now and I'm on the mend. "
Rhabdomyolysis is a disease that causes the destruction of large amounts muscle cells, and which can be caused by several reasons. One of the complications of this disease is its acute renal failure.
Skofterud, that in the last two years is not more able to obtain results comparable to the past and its most young teammates next season will focus the long distance races.
