Martina Valcepina opens with a bang: triumph over the 500 in Salt Lake City, return with a smile for Arianna Fontana

A first stage of the World Cup that sees the blue stars of the short track immediately ahead.

The 2019/2020 season begins with a victory, the one signed in Salt Lake City by Martina Valcepina on the 500 meters, but also the excellent return to the race of the Arianna Fontana olympic, immediately in the final in the 1500. The 27-year-old Valtelinese is literally amazing, having achieved the fourth consecutive Cup success in the short distance (after those in Dresden and the one-two in Turin with which she ended last season); Valcepina gave Italy's first hurray in a race that also saw the excellent performance of Elena Viviani herself, fourth in final B and eighth overall. Three top ten placements instead for the Italians in the 1500 race: Arianna Fontana's return was topped off by an excellent sixth place, just ahead of the very young Arianna Sighel, while Cynthia Mascitto concluded ninth. In the men's 1500s, instead, Yuri Confortola and Tommaso Detti placed respectively in 11th and 12th place, while the women's Italian relay, composed by Fontana, Valcepina, Sighel and Viviani, third in battery behind South Korea and Canada, failed to access final A. Today, in the Italian evening, the third and final day of races in Utah, with another test on the 500 with Valcepina all''accalto, the 1000 meters and the finals of the relay races.
