The Russians Tretiakov and Tregubov were ninth and seventh respectively, while for reasons related to Covid-19 the North American and Asian athletes did not take part, in particular the Olympic champion Yun in the men's race.
The first test of the season also smiled at the Italian colors with Valentina Margaglio who took an excellent tenth place, her second best result in the maximum skeleton circuit, and with Mattia Gaspari who despite some driving inaccuracies in the first descent and still struggling with an ineffective push phase due to the Achilles tendon problem, he took his fifth career placement in the top ten, finishing in tenth position overall. The Piedmontese who has now become the "queen" of the start (her best push times in both descents ed), today without a few too many smudges, she could have done better, proving to be on the right path to make a further leap in quality. The same goes for Gaspari who, despite the push problems, seems to have returned to the levels of three seasons ago when he had consistently found the top ten.
Experience tests instead for Alessia Crippa (seventeenth) and for Amedeo Bagnis (sixteenth) who will draw important information from today's two descents in view of the next appointment that will be raced again on the Sigulda track.
