It is a great party at home in Germany for the splendid hat-trick won at the skeleton world championships being held on the friendly track in Altenberg. The Teutonic training favored by the field factor, literally dominated the world championship event, sending on stage a throbbing challenge to three of its main athletes which ended only in the last race in favor of Christopher Grotheer, who graduated champion of the world with just 2 cents ahead of Axel Jungk and 5 cents ahead of Alexander Gassner.

A fantastic race full of adrenaline, twists and turns, characterized by a very high technical level and fought to the last, which is decidedly unusual in recent years in this discipline. Grotheer, who has never participated in any World Cup race to prepare for the world championship event in this season, was the absolute protagonist of this world championship, leading the classification from the first day of competitions.
The twenty-seven year old from Saxony implemented a perfect race conduct, printing the track record during the second descent which was the real keystone of a competition played on the wire. Thanks to this storm Grotheer has in fact secured a small margin of safety (35 cents) against the most difficult rival Axel Jungk, a margin that at the end of the two days allowed the Saxon to buffer the peremptory return of his teammate, who the sound of heats has overtaken compatriot Gassner in second place taking only 2 cents from the gold medal.
A battle that sent the large home crowd into raptures which was able to celebrate twenty years after Andy Boehme a new German success in a world championship event, and above all he was able to celebrate a historic Made in Germany hat-trick which never happened in earlier in a world championship. In the history of the male skeleton it is the second time that a nation has completely monopolized the podium, the first to succeed was Austria in Igls in 1991.
To complete the great German celebration, the young Felix Keisinger thought that with fifth place allowed Germany to place 4 athletes in the top 5 of the ranking. Keisinger in particular thanks to the victory in the recent junior world championships has allowed the German team to obtain an additional place in the senior world championship, without this success today's winner Grotheer could not even have gone on track ...
To break the Teutonic monotony there was the "usual" Martins Dukurs who slipped into fourth position but failed to be able to fight for the podium. Sixth place for Olympic champion Yun, seventh for Tomass Dukurs, and eighth for an unlit Tretiakov.
In Casa Italia the best of the blues was Mattia Gaspari who finished 26th. Beyond the final result, the performance of the ampezzano is to be considered decidedly satisfactory considering the very long period of inactivity due to the injury to the Achilles tendon that forced him, among other things, to radically change the position thrust. Gaspari, in addition to regaining leadership within the Italian team, which has never been called into question, has shown a great performance growth that bodes well for the coming seasons.
Thirty-first place for rookie Amedeo Bagnis who paid very little for his inexperience with a technical track like that of Altenberg. World championship aside, the season of the Bob Club Cortina rider is to be considered largely positive, the push is there and it is out of the question, but we must now take better care of the guide to consistently aim at the top 20.
