Katie Uhlaender test her new skeleton in the wind tunnel

In recent days, the 2012 World Championships champion Katie Uhlaender and his team-mates Matt Antoine, John Daly and Kayle Tress found themselves in a wind tunnel in Mooresville, North Carolina, to run tests on the aerodynamic ProtoStar V5 (pictured), the new skeleton that will be used by the U.S. athletes from next season.

The new sled made from ProtoStar Engineering in collaboration with Machintek Corporation, deBotech and Carpenter Technology Corporation was conceived, designed and developed specifically for the American team with the aim of facilitating the race for the Olympic gold medal for the U.S. athletes. Grand Schaffner engineer and co-founder of the American media Protostar thus presented the new model: "ProtoStar V5 is the result of over five years of intense study and engineering of specific work on the development of the product.'s Close collaboration between the various companies involved, athletes and coaches has allowed us to achieve a skeleton that from my point of view will be very competitive. " The new product has some substantial innovations that allow the athlete to achieve high top speeds without losing the driveability of the vehicle. The ProtoStar V5 in fact, has been realized with ultra-resistant steels that improve the efficiency of the structural skeleton and consequently facilitate its guide. In addition, thanks to some tricks, the new sled allows you to quickly customize the trim depending on the will and the feelings of the individual athlete. In the wind tunnel the four skelettonisti tested the aerodynamic structure with different speeds, starting from 96km / h to almost 129km / h. The tests were carried out mostly with temperatures around zero degrees centigrade but athletes and engineers have called for the same tests were performed with the same atmospheric conditions of competition ie at temperatures around minus ten degrees. According to preliminary indications, the ProtoStar V5 is considered to be fully promoted. Obviously, the technical stars and stripes when you do not veering further well aware that the real litmus test is represented by the first races of the season.
