Mattia Gaspari triumphs in Lillehammer in the first race of the Intercontinental Cup season. Margaglio Third

The 2022-23 season for the Italian skeleton begins with a bang. On the Lillehammer track the Ampezzano achieved the first success of his career in the Intercontinental Cup circuit, the second for prestige after the World Cup.

The bearer of the Fiamme Azzurre fifth at the end of the first descent, invented a splendid final run by printing the best time trial which allowed him to win with full merit the first victory of his career in an international skeleton series. Gaspari preceded the German Alexander Gassner by 4 cents and the British Jacob Salisbury by 14 cents. A truly convincing success for Ampezzano especially if we consider the high level of the opponents who competed in this first competition of the season. Behind Gaspari, in fact, was placed the two-time world bronze Alexander Gassner, an athlete who also boasts two successes in the World Cup who was "relegated" to the minor circuit for not having passed the trials given by the German federation to outline the rooster who will participate in the next World Cup. Really a nice boost of confidence for the Italian skeleton team that this morning had already obtained a comforting podium with Valentina Margaglio.
