A few surprises at Lake Placid in the sixth round of the Skeleton World Cup. In the first of the three North American events in the series, I'm always the Russian Alexander Tretiakov, his compatriot Elena Nikitina and the German Loelling to dictate the law.

On the New York State track two very fought races went on stage with even two winners in the women's race. In fact, they won the leader of the general classification Nikitina and his direct rival at the Crystal Ball Jacqueline Loelling, who have crossed the finish line of the second heat with the same time.
The two great protagonists of this edition of the World Cup, have as usual disputed two races at the antipodes, with the Russian who greatly benefited in the pushing phase and the German longline that made the gap in the part driven by trimming more than 4 tenths all '' attacking.
A challenge between power and technique that has rewarded both athletes who have literally made the gap compared to the rest of the competition. Third, more than half a second from the summit was the US Kendall Wesenberg who gave his country the first podium of the season, preceding the ranking the Canadian Mirela Rahneva and especially the German opaque Sophia Griebel and Tina Hermann.
With this success, the third seasonal, Elena Nikitina continues to lead the overall standings of the World Cup. The Russian still maintains a margin of 43 points ahead of Jacqueline Loelling and 125 on Tina Hermann when two races are missing at the end of the season.
In the men's race another Russian success came thanks to Alexander Tretiakov. The Olympic champion of Sochi 2014 won his third win of the season with a margin of just 14 hundredths of an advantage over Martins Dukurs who returned after some opaque races to recite a leading role at the top of the standings. Tretiakov therefore had to "invent" two perfect descents to get the better of his historic rival, seizing a success that also guaranteed him the leadership in the general classification.
The Russian has in fact climbed to the top of the list the South Korean Sugbin Yun, third in Lake Placid, which is now in second position with 24 lengths to be recovered in the fight against the Crystal Ball.
Fourth place for Nikita Tregubov never fighting for a place on the podium in this first North American appointment, fifth and sixth the Germans Axel Jungk and Christopher Grotheer. Nineteenth position for the 'blue Joseph Cecchini debut season in the World Cup.
The next weekend in Calgary will close the curtain on the 2018-2019 edition of the maximum skeleton circuit. Two competitions will take place on the Canadian track, one of which will be the recovery of the race canceled in early January at Koenigssee.
