Kaillie Humphries, Canadian hobbyist but who has competed for the United States since 2019, is in serious danger of not being able to take part in the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games.
The 36-year-old native of Calgary, in fact, despite being married to a US citizen and residing for several years in San Diego, does not have the American passport, which is necessary to be able to participate in an Olympic event. In all likelihood, the passport will not arrive before 2023, a timeframe that would therefore automatically exclude from the Chinese Games one of the favorites for both the traditional bobsleigh and the mono-bobsled race.
"This is a very frustrating situation, in which I can do very little. - Humphries told the Associated Press - I would really like to participate in the Olympics, but unfortunately it is not up to me". Kaillie Humphries, who has won five Olympic medals in her career, will certainly resort to Rule 41 of the Olympic Charter, where the IOC Executive Committee is allowed to intervene on issues concerning changes of nationality.
We recall that Humphries left the Canadian national team in 2019, following the chaos related to verbal abuse and harassment with some members of the Canadian federation. "I could have applied for a passport to another country, but I only want to compete for the United States, in a team where I feel very comfortable. Not being admitted to the Games would mean having been hostage to the Canadian team before they released me to be able to change teams.
