The 2010 European silver medallist, Corinna Martini of Germany, ended her active career just as her teammate Carina Schwab. At the national qualifying races both athletes failed to make it into the Viessmann Luge World Cup squad of the German Bobsleigh and Sled Sports Federation (BSD).
28-year-old Corinna Martini celebrated her biggest success in the Viessmann Luge World Cup series on her “home-track” in Winterberg in January 2012. The federal police officer, however, will compete one last time in the German National Championships, scheduled to take place in Winterberg shortly before Christmas.
Carina Schwab, who now wants to pass the final high school exam necessary for graduation, earned the junior World Championship title in 2010. She also claimed two second-place finishes in the Viessmann Luge World Cup series – in Paramonovo (Russia) in the 2010-2011 season as well as in Koenigssee in front of a home crowd in the pre-Olympic season of 2012-2013.
