Second race of the season and second victory for Johannes Ludwig, true protagonist of this strange start of the 2021-22 sledding World Cup. A weekend of competitions heavily influenced by the variability of the weather conditions took place on the track that was the theater of the 2014 Olympic Games, with the pouring rain that influenced the speed of the ice and caused fog to appear in some places, with the result of changing part of the values in the field.

In today's awaited men's test, for example, the first four of the final classification are respectively in twentieth, fifteenth, twenty-third and twenty-sixth position after the first round, but thanks to a final heat disputed with a "low" bib they were able to exploit at best the best conditions of the fund going up to the Top5. The result was a two-sided race, with a first heat that foreshadowed great things also for the Italian colors with Dominik Fischnaller who had finished in second position just 21 thousandths from the provisional leader Aparjods.

Ranking that has rewarded once again the experience of Johannes Ludwig, formidable to climb from twentieth position to success, and of Felix Loch (fifteenth after the first run) who gave Germany their first double win of the season.
Coming back apart, the two Germans seem to have an edge over the rest of the competition, especially in terms of materials. Proof of this is the great manifestation of joy by Loch at the end of the second heat closed behind his teammate when 14 other athletes still had to descend. An awareness of their own means that says a lot about the level of preparation for the delicate Olympic season by the two big favorites for the Five Circles gold.
Third place for the idol of the house Roman Repilov good at grabbing the podium after the 23rd place in the first round, which precedes the third Teutonic Max Langenhan who seems to have found a certain continuity in the noble part of the ranking after the podium seven days ago in China.
Kevin Fischnaller took care of "saving" the Italian expedition, seventh, recovered from 24th position, who obtained the best blue result, apart from the relay, of this weekend decidedly subdued for the blue colors. In fact, in the men's race a 13th place with the young Leon Felderer and the 26th of Lukas Gufler arrived, results not different from the women's race where Italy grabbed the 11th position with Marion Oberhofer, the 14th with Nina Zoeggeler, 15th with Andrea Voetter and the 16th with Verena Hofer. Also the doubles with the best Italian association Rieder-Rastner tenth, and with Rieder-Kainzwaldener and Nagler-Malleier respectively 19th and 21st were not very good.
If Italy suffered in Sochi, much better went for Russia, Germany and Latvia who each won one race. In the double successes for the brothers Andris and Juris Sics good at overcoming the Russians Bogdanov-Prokhorov in comeback and taking the lead in the general classification of the World Cup. Fight all in Germany for the third step of the podium with the 4-time Olympic champions Wendl-Arlt who in the "usual" match against Germany beat their compatriots Eggert-Benecken by just 5 thousandths.
In the women's field, third career success for the young German Anna Berreiter, good at not sinking into the back after a first heat closed in second position and with a track that slowed down step by step in the final heat. The Teutonic beat the Latvian Aparjode by 107 thousandths and the Russian Viktoriia Demchenko who became the top athlete of her team by 268 thousandths after the serious knee injury suffered last weekend in China by Tatjana Ivanova during the team test. The other main favorites of the Teutonic team are in some difficulty. In fifth place came Dajana Eitberger, eighth Natalie Geisenberger and ninth Julia Taubitz. In the general classification Berreiter takes the lead with 14 points ahead of the Austrian Egle (seventh in Sochi) and 36 points over Taubitz.
Russian dominance in the team event. The team made up of Demchenko, Pavlichenko and Bogdanov-Prokhorov outclassed the competition, triumphing by more than a second over Germany and Latvia. Italy, represented by Marion Oberhofer, Dominik Fischnaller and Rieder-Kainzwldner came in fifth place but very far from third place.
The Luge World Cup also remains for next weekend in Russia, where the first sprint races of the season will also be held.
