First weekend of competitions and the first podium of the season for the Italian national luge team on an artificial track. In Yanqing in China, on the same gut that will award the Olympic medals in February, the Italian team finished third in the team event just three thousandths from the second place won by the United States.

The unprecedented Italian formation composed of Verena Hofer (at their absolute debut in this format), Dominik Fischnaller and the double format of Emanuel Rieder and Simon Kainzwaldner has thus smoothly redeemed a slightly subdued weekend of pre-Olympic competitions. Italy, which last year won the specialty World Cup, benefited today from the double harakiri committed by the two favorite teams, Russia overthrown already in the first fraction and above all by Germany which when it seemed destined to dominate the first relay of the season was suddenly called out of the fight for the podium with the overthrow of the double Eggert-Benecken, leaving the way for success to a solid Austria.
The red and white team, dragged by the Steu-Koller duo, managed to get the better of the United States, 375 thousandths of a second behind, and the Azzurri (+378), completing an unforgettable Sunday consisting of the double success in Team Relay and in the women's single.
