The weekend of competitions of the Italian national sledding team, committed on the obstinate gut of Oberhof, ends with a fourth place. The Italian team led by Armin Zoeggeler concluded today's Team Relay at the foot of the podium, being preceded by Germany, Latvia and Austria.

The Italian team took to the track with the trio made up of Andrea Voetter, Dominik Fischnaller and Rieder-Kaizwaldener, that is to say the team that we will most likely see at the start of the Beijing Olympic Games. Italy, which this season has already won two podiums in this format, today played a very solid test that allowed it to easily stay ahead of Russia and Canada, but once again had to give way to three national teams who at the moment seem to be the main suspects for the Olympic medals.
Germany, which fielded Julia Taubitz in the first fraction, Johannes Ludwig in the second (new winner of the Crystal Ball ed) and the Eggert-Benecken duo, had no rivals, trimming very heavy gaps to the rest of the group, demonstrating that under normal conditions and except for sensational mistakes, the Wunderteam remains the team to beat. Nice fight for the other two podium positions, with Latvia beating Austria by just 6 thousandths.
In the women's test, staged in the morning, the fifth victory of the season for the Austrian Madeleine Egle who preceded by only 20 thousandths the leader of the general classification Julia Taubitz, but which above all prevented Germany from completing a sensational poker by placing 4 athletes in the first 4 places of the ranking. In fact, in third, fourth and fifth position, Anna Berreiter, Natalie Geisenberger and Cheyenne Rosenthal (Eitberger's replacement) were placed, yet another demonstration that the Oberhof track is a real Teutonic fiefdom.
At home Italy we note the excellent second run of Andrea Voetter, who with the fifth part time has risen from thirteenth to seventh position. Twelfth place instead for Sandra Robatscher, seventeenth Verena Hofer and twenty-first Nina Zoeggeler.
The Luge World Cup now gives an appointment to next weekend, where the final act of this season will be staged on the Olympia Bobrun in Sankt Moritz.
