This morning in Valtournenche an ultralight with former ex-world toboggan champion Corrado Hérin aboard crashed in the locality of Chantorné, killing Herin instantly and seriously injuring a passenger traveling with him.

Herin 52 years was taking part in some celebrations with the Ski Club Torgnon and with another person, he had taken off with his Piper to throw confetti on the party, when for reasons yet to be ascertained he lost control of his aircraft and crashed to the ground .
"We were all at lunch when the plane passed over us: it made a strange twist, we thought it was a sort of acrobatics, while it was probably falling" this is the dramatic story of the Mayor of Torgnon Daniele Perrin, who along with numerous athletes and coaches witnessed the tragedy. The Carabinieri on the slopes immediately intervened on the spot, in addition to the 118 and the Valle d'Aosta Mountain Rescue. Herin's body was extracted from the plates. The remains of the ultralight aircraft were scattered among the trees, at an altitude of about 1,800 meters.
Corrado Herin was well known for his numerous sporting successes. In the natural toboggan run on Herin paired with Almir Betemps he had won two gold medals at the world championships (in 1986 and 1992 ed) and one silver (1990), while in the single he had been second in the World Championship edition of 1990.
Having abandoned his career in sledging, Herin had switched to mountain biking in the downhill specialty, gaining great satisfaction here too. At the 1994 World Championships the Valdostan had been bronze medal while in 1997 he had managed to win the World Cup. Corrado Herin had retired from competitive sport and had been technical director of the downhill and four-fross national team. Right downhill he was very well known as a track designer.
