Tragedy close to the Beijing 2022 track

Tragedy touched on the Yanqing Olympic track. During the official training sessions established by the International Federation to allow athletes to get to know the new Olympic gut, the Polish Mateusz Sochowicz violently hit a bank left culpably closed by the organizers, causing the fracture of his left leg and a deep cut.

According to the heavy statements released to the press by Marek Skowroński, head coach of the Polish national team, the accident was caused by an error by the course technicians who would not have opened the bank that allows the men's track to merge into the women's one. . The Olympic facility, in fact, like many guts, has different starting points depending on the type of race in order to allow the dispute of all disciplines of speed on the ice. Sochowicz once got the green light (which means free track ed) took to the track facing the first curves, and as he was about to enter turn four he found the track blocked by the bank that delimits the women's path. Once he realized the danger, the 25-year-old Pole tried in every way to avoid the obstacle, abandoning the sled and putting himself in an egg position to reduce the damage from impact. Unfortunately, the high speed and the few protections available to the sleds did little to protect the body of the unfortunate Sochowicz who, as mentioned, suffered a fractured left leg and a deep cut. In addition to the inexperience on the part of the Chinese route technicians on the management of the track, the Polish Federation and Sochowicz himself point the finger at the poor preparation of the Chinese health service, the sled rider was in fact rescued very late and the track doctor he did not know exactly how to intervene on the unfortunate athlete. Just three months before the Olympic Games, the Chinese organizing committee is now having to face the problem of the safety of its facilities with utmost seriousness, in order to avoid possible tragedies such as the one just touched upon today.
