The great Sven Kramer at risk for the Olympic qualification in speed skating

The Dutch ace, in Beijing 2022, would go on the hunt for the tenth Olympic medal: the trials at orange, however, have begun uphill ...

Sven Kramer, the reigning 5,000-meter Olympic champion and the most all-time medalist among men, is in danger of not participating in the upcoming 2022 Beijing Olympics in long track skating. In the Dutch trials, the orange champion finished in third place with a time of 6''12 ”29 behind Patrick Roest and Jorrit Bergsma. Roest has already secured his place for the next Games and Bergsma will accompany him on this adventure. For Kramer, however, things get complicated: the ace capable of collecting 9 Olympic medals, will have to wait for the conclusion of the Trials next Thursday and see what his rivals will do to understand his fate and win his fifth participation in five circles. The other possibility is to participate in the team pursuit in which he was Olympic champion in 2014. The Netherlands can qualify 3 men in the 5000 meters and bring a total of 9 skaters of each sex to the Olympics. Meanwhile, Ireen Wust, 11 times Olympic medalist, also failed to secure a place for the 1000 meters. It will be able to redeem itself in the 1500s.
