World Ski Speed Championships, Valentina Greggio and Simone Origone start off on the right foot in Vars

After the first run, 1st and 2nd place for the two Italian champions; on Saturday the decisive tests for access to the semifinals.

The world speed skiing championships are starting well, the first big appointment of the season as per tradition on the snow of Vars. Simone Origone is second after the only run disputed - due to the great wind - on a first day that sees the great Aosta Valley champion, author of 184.38 km / h, preceded only by the great French rival Simon Billy with 185.60 km / h. Third position for the Austrian Manuel Kramer with 183.49 km / h. Ivan Origone took 17th place with 176.05 km / h, while Jean Daniel Pession is 21st with 174.05 km / h. In the women's field Valentina Greggio dominated with 177.80 km / h, ahead of the two Swedes Hanna Matslofva with 177.29 km / h and Britta Backlund with 176.92 km / h. Two more rounds are scheduled for Saturday, which will define the ranking of the twenty males and the four best women who will access the semifinals.
