Speed skiing, Simone Origone finishes 3rd in the first World Cup race in Idre Fjall

With today's cancellation due to weather conditions, the Aosta Valley climber gets on the podium behind the French Billy and the Austrian Kramer, while Valentina Greggio is fourth beaten by a Swedish trio. Doubts about the calendar of a season that risks ending already with this stage ...

The fears of the eve of the weather forecast have come true and today bad weather prevented the dispute of the semifinal and final rounds of race-1 regarding the opening of the World Cup of speed skiing on the Swedish track of Idre Fjall. The jury considered the ranking drawn up at the end of the first three laps carried out on Wednesday as definitive; for this reason in the men's field the success went to the French Simon Billy (second success for him in CdM) with 171.47 km / h ahead of the Austrian Manuel Kramer (169.34 km / h), with Simone Origone (167 , 38 km / h) forced to settle for third place. More late in Italy, Jean Daniel Pession, eleventh with 163.55 km / h, while Ivan Origone finished fifteenth with 162.53 km / h and Samuele Capello twenty-fifth with 151.89 km / h. In the women's field came the Swedish hat-trick with the usual Britta Backlund who triumphed with 164.16 km / h, ahead of Lisa Hovland Uden with 162.28 km / h and Hanna Matslofva with 161.03 km / h. Fourth Valentina Greggio with 160.49 km / h, with the blue tip that could not go to the assault of the hosts in the last attacks. The program of the cup stage on the Swedish snow should continue on Friday 12 and Saturday 13 March with race-2 and race-3, which could already be decisive for the assignment of the World Cup (but also in this case the weather is feared adverse), given that the next stages scheduled in Vars in the coming weeks have already been canceled and these risk remaining the only tests of an ... absurd season.
