Stanserhorn of Lucerne, the cable car becomes "cabrio"

In Switzerland, an hour's drive from Lucerne, the cable car Stanserhorn (1,898 meters) has experienced a world first: a cable car with a roof terrace to enjoy the extraordinary view on the ten lakes in the region, with the Alps to the south and the great plain of the Rhine to the north.

Into The plant, which opened last June 29 and run until November 18, 2012, the middle station of Kälti and leads to the top of the mountain, where a revolving restaurant offers an unlimited view of Lake Zug, Lake Wichelsee, on Lake Lucerne, on Lake Sempach, Lake Sarnen on Lake Hallwil, Gerzensee lake, Lake Bannalp on Lake Baldegg and Lake Alpnach, spreading up to Alsace and the Forest Nera. Into The plant was built by Garaventa Ag Goldau. The lower floor, with walls entirely of glass, can accommodate 60 passengers. 30 people can access the bridge instead of shelter by an internal staircase.

"It all started in June 2004 - said Balsiger - from a meeting with Reto Channel, an engineer specializing in cable cars. wanted to make an ambitious and that evening we had the inspiration: a convertible suspended to reach the summit Stanserhorn. We sat at a table and we tried to sketch different solutions. wanted the new cable car was absolutely cabrio and that passengers had the feeling of not having nothing but the sky above your head. " "The problem - adds Reno Canale - was to eliminate from view the supporting cables and sliding mechanisms, which in all other cable cars are located above the cabins. So we slipped them on the sides of building a cabin with two floors."

Sketched this idea has resulted an ambitious project, a creation that combines cutting-edge technology and environment. The plant has cost 28.1 million Swiss francs, about 24 million Euro, and the the ticket price reflects the costs exorbitant, 34 francs (about 28 Euro) for a one-way trip of 6 and a half minutes.  To get to the middle station Kallti from Stans, the town in the valley, is still running the original funicular opened in 1893 with the carriages of vintage wood.
