Ski ClothingGoldwin
During the winter season 2017/2018 I have tested for NeveItalia a Freeride set of the Japanese brand Goldwin. For some years Goldwin has decided to bring its experience developed in many years in the world of ski racing and therefore also in the world of Freeski without forgetting its identity that is made of high technology, materials always at the top and innovative details that are developed at Toyama's Japanese headquarters.

The tested technical clothing is the "Top of Range" of the Freeride collection, which is why my test lasted throughout the winter season from December to May, this for real feedback and to give the test veracity.
Easy to test a garment one or two days, on a beautiful January day with sun and a temperature of -7 °, which happens most of the time in the tests, sure that the photos or movies will be impeccable, but the judgment on a technical manager will be falsified. In my tests the leaders in question in addition to trying them and put them to the test, I lived them, each one with its own history and different emotions.
During the tests I found a lot of that powder that seemed to be in Japan from where it comes complete and not in Italy and more precisely in the Western Alps. I have "scrambled" the suit in very difficult weather conditions both during the descents and in the ascents with the skins. Powder days where the cold and dusty snow entered everywhere, water balloons in the face that took your breath away ...
I started with the tests in December 2017 with that much dust coming down from the sky and I finished in May 2018 with the ski Touring trips on snow transformed in spring. The past winter has been one of the best winters of the last 20 years, with the opening of the ski resorts of the Maritime Alps, my area, in November.
The tests carried out for the technical ski clothing are carried out throughout the winter ski season, to give veracity to the tests and in the event to detect any defects or wear of the materials over time.
The tested garment was exposed to the icy cold of January and February (which this year were particularly harsh for my area) with several days when the thermometer went from -15 ° to -11 ° and to the heat especially during the period spring, also given by the proximity to the sea, passing through the rain, strong wind with gusts above 80 km / h, the 'high humidity that is almost always present in this area and of course the snow. All these climatic factors amplified by the proximity of the Ligurian coast and the sea that make the Cuneo Alps a particular microclimate.
But let's move on to the complete Goldwin and find out about it in the details:
Both the jacket and the trousers are made of synthetic material very soft and pleasant to the touch, even when worn, the outfit is very pleasant and very light, it uses a Gore-Tex membrane to prevent water from passing through it. Primaloft to be warm and breathable. Once worn the suit is very comfortable and does not bother anywhere in the body. The combined Gore-Tex and Primaloft makes it to have an excellent impermeability and breathability, being able to retain very well the heat of the body without dispersing it to the outside.
Both the jacket and the trousers have a great cut, a mix between Freeride and ski mountaineering, in which we find many useful and functional pockets, with heat-sealed hinges, the essential air intakes during the spring and the ascents, hood, Elastic waistband for fresh snow and anti-cut protection in trousers.
The innovations introduced by Goldwin for the jacket are the adjustment of the cuff using Velcro and magnets, the lapel that can be raised and thanks to the small holes allows us to exploit it especially when it is bad weather and the small visor on the hood.
While the novelty introduced by Goldwin for the trousers is a regulation through an elastic band of life and therefore the 'abandonment of the use of the shoulder straps and the belt.
The whole is very beautiful and attractive thanks to the jacket color Lime Green, a color that is very visible and therefore also helpful during days with bad weather conditions and when there is fog. The trousers have a nice cut with generous air intakes very practical especially for hot days and ascents with skins, also the color Army Green trousers is very nice and useful (especially for mountain professionals who work there all days) because it tends to get dirty less than lighter shades.
Overall, Goldwin's Freeski suit amazed me both for the lightness of the jacket and trousers, as well as water resistance and breathability, and for how it retains body heat even during windy days. I'm happy to have tested this suit during a very generous ski season of snowfall, the goodness of the materials has meant that I could enjoy my days off-piste without worrying about having to bring a change, one of many factors of judgment during my tests for the technical ski clothing are my underwear ... oh yes! That's right, during the ascents made on the chairlifts (which in my part are not covered by the dome) in a day of testing where it rains copiously or snows abundantly, get wet is not a good sign; but in this case my underpants have always remained dry even during snowfalls and showers, so I can say to Goldwin ... Test passed!
